Well met. Call me Mortaki.

Post by mortaki »

Hello, I go by Mortaki (or Mordecai).

I'm 20-something and based in the US. My hobbies include writing, reading, coding, writing, anime/manga, playing video games, and did I mention writing? I feel like I haven't emphasized that enough.

If you haven't guessed, I'm a writer and a general nerd. I especially love history and culture studies. I'm also obsessed with whimsy and just the very concept of magic. I love talking to new people, but have a fatal shyness that comes out as being aggressively polite, especially on the internet. Sorry for my awkwardness lol.

hi mortaki!! clappingorange whimsy is the best thing on earth and frankly i think whismy consisted of 90% of the reason that netizen.town came into existence :D we like very many of the same things its just been 5everrr since i watched any anime. or read any manga. ive seen like ... ! fullmetal alchemist brotherhood and bungou stray dogs. other recommendations would be very definitely appreciated >:)

taking a look at your site and i remember looking at this before !! i love your segment about the dead internet theory/alive internet theory :D i need to spend more time reading through all this, i love your vocabulary and pace of writing a lot +1

take all the time that you need to get comfortable :> i know for a fact that i did not pop out the pussy being this friendly . and sometimes i am not always this friendly. but that's what life is!!

that means so much to me you don't even understand

just so you know, your energy is immaculate. I realized pretty early into your entry in the neocities club discord that we had a lot of the same interests, especially in video games. I honestly only keep up with my favorite animes/mangas which translates to reading maybe one chapter a month and binge watching a season or so every year. FMA:B is definitely one of them though. It's kind of a hard one to top.

perhaps i do !! words are so so so dearly important and useful and wonderful. and it feels (and is kind of true) that it's harder and harder nowdays to meet people who have a good handle on prose, and it's a delight to come across another gem like you :)

im very good at talking to a Lot , of people, and forgetting a lot of things ....... but we should definitely play some stuff together !! we gotta overthrow ai datacenders so we can reclaim them and turn them into............Video Game Server Centers . at least those would be more fun.

and yeah i literally die on the hill of fma:b being like . the one anime of all time. like people can talk about bleach or hunter x hunter or naruto for their longevity which i do respect but sometimes the greatest thing you can create comes in a single serving package.... though watching fma:b all in one sitting is sure to give you a lot of emotional constipation :P

Mortaki, your writing is such an inspiration! I finally found the time to spend on your site and I'm enamored. Your characters and stories and ideas have such personality to them. Also your poetry hits deep. "tender loving care" especially resonates with me.

So happy to meet you :D

Also: I agree, FMA:B is one of the best anime out there. I may have a tattoo of the ouroboros symbol on my ankle :0
heartspink I'm verbose. Sorry! (not sorry)

screaming???? I am torn between the utter mortification of being percieved and the immense joy of your regard lol. TLC is also one of my favorite poems that I've written, I'm glad you liked it.

Hello Mortaki! Awesome to have you here on the Netizen!

Really looking forward to reading your work, love your website too It looks incredible and I love the style of it!
I particularly love your thoughts on Creating without giving thoughts on an audience, It's something I have struggled with for a long time regarding motivation on creating something that may not be perceived.

Looking forward to catching up on your writing, I'd seen your post about your Novel and I'm planning on reading it sometime this week!

My philosophy on creating things is sadly borne of a chronic lack of support. I had to learn to write for myself first and foremost essentially as a survival tactic. That said, I'm very much familiar with the struggle you describe. It's a big reason I made my site in the first place. It's out there at the very least. Another thing that motivates me is that publishing has no real bearing on whether people see your work. Many authors (and I believe many other kinds of artists as well) only became well-known after their deaths. So you know, I might not live to see it, but if there's even a chance of anyone reading it, I gotta write it first. That's the way I think of it, at least.

Thanks for checking out my site! That makes me happy! I'm excited to hear what you think of Red Handed; be sure to share, even if it's bad lol.

Hi Mortaki!

I loveeee the homepage of your site so much, and I got kind of lost in your site for a while @-@

With how much of a mess my brain is basically all of the time, I sometimes just forget random things for a very long time, and reading the poems you wrote and recommended made me kind of remember how much I can enjoy writing general, and I will definitely be reading red handed soon ^-^

Your essay on genAI is very nice, it kinda changed the way I think about "AI" "art", I like the way you emphasize the importance of appreciating and engaging with human made art, instead of actively "investigating" things on whether they might be AI or not. It really made me sort of shift focus in the way I think about genAI.
Sharing music recommendations back and forth with friends is genuinely one of my favorite things to do, and I'm actively trying to rely as little as possible on algorithms, so the last paragraph resonated a lot :3

Also your site is so different everywhere and it's so cool, just, yeah I love how there's so many different themes and ways you present things :D

I have a very annoying fear of mushrooms so your homepage gave me chills the first time I saw it lol
music and birds are cool listening

Oh wow, thank you, Vogel! I'm glad you liked it as I'm very proud of it. (sorry my mushrooms jumpscared you lol) I remember when I first made my site thinking that I wanted to do every page differently simply because there were so many things I could do. So I did haha.

Super happy that you liked my poems. It always slightly embarrasses me knowing people read them, but I think they're pretty cathartic and want to share that feeling! I hope you enjoy Red Handed when you get around to it. Would love to hear what you have to say about it.

Someone told me that one day a robot will write better than I do, and honestly, my feelings weren't even really hurt because I just felt that was patently untrue lol. The essay is the result of that righteous rage. I'm not claiming to be the best writer in the world, but certainly I think I can do something new and interesting, right? I'm glad that perspective resonated with you. Hopefully it will give you a little peace of mind.
